Franklin, NC (November 28, 2024) – A Beechcraft B300 King Air 350, operated by Barrel King LLC, veered off the runway while landing at Macon County Airport (1A5) around 10:19 a.m. local time. The incident occurred during a landing attempt on Runway 7 and resulted in the aircraft coming to rest on the taxiway.
The pilot, the sole occupant of the aircraft, escaped unharmed. There were no other injuries reported. However, the aircraft sustained substantial damage, including significant nose damage caused by at least two propeller blades penetrating the fuselage from both sides.
Weather Conditions
Weather reports from the time of the incident indicate gusty winds, which may have contributed to the mishap. At 10:10 a.m., approximately 12 minutes before the accident, winds were recorded at 340° at 9 knots, gusting to 16 knots, with visibility at 10 miles and scattered clouds at 2,800 feet. Conditions worsened slightly by 10:30 a.m., with winds increasing to 330° at 12 knots and gusting to 21 knots.
Incident Details
The aircraft had departed from Atlanta-DeKalb Peachtree Airport (KPDK) in Georgia earlier in the day and was on a private flight to Franklin, NC. During the landing phase, the plane veered off the intended runway path. Post-accident photos shared by Franklin Fire and Rescue reveal the extent of the damage to the aircraft, although the cockpit and fuselage integrity likely helped protect the pilot from injury.
Ongoing Investigation
