The tragic passing of Captain Ilcehin Pehlivan.

On October 8, 2024, a Turkish Airlines Airbus A350-941 (TC-LGR), operating flight TK204 from Seattle to Istanbul, made an emergency landing at New York JFK Airport following the tragic passing of Captain Ilcehin Pehlivan.

Shortly after takeoff, Captain Pehlivan, 59, lost consciousness. Despite efforts to revive him, he sadly passed away before the aircraft landed.

Turkish Airlines Press Adviser Yahya Ustun confirmed the incident via social media, explaining that the remaining cockpit crew made the emergency landing after onboard medical aid failed. Captain Pehlivan had recently passed a routine medical exam in March 2024.

Arrangements were made for passengers to continue their journey from New York to Türkiye.
