Incident Report: Ryanair Flight FR8826 Aborts Takeoff Following Engine Surge at Brindisi Airport

On the morning of 3 October 2024, Ryanair flight FR8826, a scheduled passenger service between Brindisi-Papola Casale Airport (BDS) and Torino-Citta Di Torino Airport (TRN), experienced a no.2 engine surge during its takeoff roll on runway 31 at Brindisi Airport.

The aircraft, a Boeing 737-8AS (WL) registered as 9H-QCB and manufactured in 2016, was carrying 184 occupants at the time. Immediately after the engine surge, the flight crew made the decision to abort the takeoff. An emergency evacuation of all passengers was conducted on the runway. Thankfully, there were no reported fatalities or injuries among passengers and crew.

The exact extent of the aircraft's damage remains unknown at this stage. Preliminary reports indicate that Ryanair engineers are assessing the situation, but official updates from the airline and relevant authorities are still pending.

The aircraft involved was powered by CFMI CFM56-7B engines, a model widely used in the 737 series. Incidents like engine surges, while rare, can occur during high-stress phases such as takeoff, requiring immediate action to ensure passenger safety.

Ryanair and the local aviation authorities will likely investigate the cause of the engine surge. As of now, the information surrounding the incident has primarily come from news and social media reports, and official statements are awaited to clarify the situation further.

Passengers on flight FR8826 were expected to continue their journey on an alternate aircraft. Stay tuned for more updates on the ongoing investigation
